30 Years to Life
30 Years to Life premiered in New York this week. The ensemble cast Melissa De Sousa, Tracy Morgan, Erika Alexander, Alan Payne Kadeem Hardison, Paula Jai Parker and T.E. Russell ensures a mixture of laughs, romance and fun as this crew explores the cusp of 30 years of age.
Directed by Vanessa Middleton, previous writer for "Saturday Night Live", "Hangin' With Mr. Cooper" and "Cosby", 30 Years to Life is her film debut. This film strikes a particular chord with the 28 - 32 age group. It deals with the transition from the carefree lifestyle and freedom of the twenties to the decade of responsibility, choices and commitment. Relationship films between African Americans are nothing new, but it was interesting to see it approached from the perspective of approaching 30 years of age.
In this film, we get to see Tracy Morgan ("Saturday Night Live", "Half-Baked") for more than the 7 minutes at a time he gives us on Saturday Night Live as an actor and a stand up comedian. Alan Payne ("New Jack City", "Jason's Lyric") is a true playa for real, and Kadeem Hardison (TV Series "A Different World", "White Men Can't Jump")…well…you've gotta see for yourself. He really puts his foot into this one. The ladies hold it down as well. The characters of Melissa De Sousa ("The Best Man", "Miss Congeniality"), Erika Alexander (TV Series "Living Single" and "The Cosby Show") and Paula Jai Parker ("Friday", "Girl 6") fluctuate through levels of strength - showing that, although swayed and unsure, they can come to conclusions to put themselves first.
The Soundtrack for 30 Years to Life was orchestrated by the one and only Timbaland listen for familiar tunes and new tracks from this producer extraordinaire. You won't leave 30 Years to Life with life changing revelations, or even an ending, but you will leave with a couple of good laughs and a little something to talk about.
30 Years to Life hits the theatres on April 12th, Nationwide
