I See Through Eyes -- A Book of Poetry by Eric Payne

I see through eyes I See Through Eyes is an undaunted tapestry of African American verse and short prose. It goes there boldly and plaintively, wrestling with issues that affect society and the human heart, but it is equally a celebration of life and love.

The poems and short stories contained within I See Through Eyes are written from an African-American perspective, but are able to be read and enjoyed by all. They address issues of romance, heartache and despair, racism, God, and youthful naiveté. A number of poetic forms are used throughout to enrich the manuscript's overall diversity. Some poems are written in free verse; some do not make use of traditional forms and punctuation; some are in sonnet and haiku form; while others are written in rhymed verse with a noticeably rhythmic cadence.

I See Through Eyes provides black men and women, as well as people of other ethnicities, with a poetic journal that documents themes that are common to most, if not all, human experiences. The book wrestles, questions, attacks, loves, and mourns, but most importantly it hopes. It gives hope to all who read it --- all who see through its eyes --- that life, despite all of its woes, is a celebration of beauty, love, and spirituality.
