Kimberly Glover
Footwear Designer, adidas SL Collection
Designer, adidas Training for Sport/Cleated Category
A native of Miami, Florida and graduate of the Magnet Program at the New World School of Arts high school, Kimberly began to take design seriously as a teenager. The path that led to her designing the SL for adidas began not with footwear, but with automobiles.

Kimberly's excellent high school portfolio won her a five-year scholarship to the Cleveland Institute of Arts, where she majored in Industrial Design, concentrating on cars, products, toys and graphic designs. In her sophomore year of college, Kimberly held an internship at The Ford Motor Company, where she met a gentleman by the name of Sam Meyer, who sparked her interest in pursuing footwear design.

Now 25 years old, Kimberly has been a designer at adidas International for over three years. Currently, as the Footwear Designer for the adidas SL (Sport Luxury) Collection, Kimberly's responsibilities include submitting and following through with designs in their early developmental stages. Her additional responsibilities include researching consumer needs, traveling both internationally and domestically for product research, as well as presenting design solutions for technical drawings.

Kimberly gets her inspiration from a wide variety of sources. Fine art, as well as Hip Hop culture inspire Kimberly's design work. Always trying to stay ahead of the game, Kimberly's talent allows her to turn rough ideas into works of art. She cites her mother, grandmother and aunt as additional inspirations, crediting them with helping her to become a strong and independent person. Kimberly's faith in God is also a great part of her personal support system.
On The adidas SL

The adidas SL shoe is best described as the fusion of style and performance in a cross-category package. The SL Collection includes a men's and women's running shoe and a men's basketball shoe. The SL is different from any other footwear that adidas has produced in the past because it was designed with a concentration, not just on performance, but on the lifestyle of overall training. It was also created to address the fact that today's consumers are very fashion conscious. The SL caters to their needs by supplying athletic support as well as style. Kimberly states, "There are people out there that are not athletes, and who aren't necessarily training for a sport. This shoe allows the average person to look athletic, as well as stylish."

Technology has taken the world by storm, and looking towards the future, Kimberly believes that technology will also play a major role in design. She states, "It's been said that form follows function. Very soon however, I believe that form will follow technology within all aspects. From architecture to footwear design, technology will be the foundation."

What Kimberly would like to see in the future is more simplicity in product design. Since designs are becoming so complex, she thinks that simple, customized designs will become more appreciated by consumers. She believes that, "Today's footwear offering is too general, and needs to be customized to fit each individual's personal needs. With the adidas SL, we're getting one step closer to that point."

The adidas SL is available only at Foot Locker, Lady Foot Locker, and Champs
